Emil Sitka ~

The Fourth Stooge

"The most important actor in most Stooges films, besides the Stooges themselves, was the sharp-nosed, wide-eyed Emil Sitka... His presence was such a mainstay of the operation that many thought of him as an undeclared 'fourth Stooge.'"

                                       -Moe Feinberg, Larry Fine's brother

November 24, 2012

I took my wife and son to Glendale to attend a Three Stooges film showing at an old historic theater and we had a ball. It was a rare opportunity to see them on the big screen in a theater filled with a laughing audience. I'd almost forgotten just how much fan that can be!
It was also a rare chance to meet with other "family and friends" of the Stooges, including Moe's daughter Joan Howard Maurer, Shemp's grand-daughters Sandie and Jill Howard, Stooges co-star Beverly Warren, and others, who all get great pleasure meeting and greeting fans. Also on hand was friend and renowned Three Stooges expert Jim Pauley, who is launching the publication of his new book and signed many copies for the fans. Quite a few people brought other books with them to gather autographs as well.
Stephen Leifer, left, and his wife Joy of Ohio were the first fans to say hello.

Below is the article, and they said they're already planning to have another 'big-screen event' next year. I've marked my calendar and if you enjoy the Stooges and live close enough, you should too!
The Alex Film Society Presents
THREE STOOGES BIG SCREEN EVENT!

This November will mark the 15th year the Alex Film Society has held its 'Three Stooges Big Screen Event!' and to celebrate this historic occasion, AFS has something special for Stooges fans everywhere. The theme this year - 'STOOGES - LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATIONS!" - promises to be one of the best lineups yet.

Did you know that some of the Three Stooges shorts were filmed within a few miles or even a few blocks of the Alex Theatre? Jim Pauley, renowned Three Stooges expert and author of the highly anticipated new book The Three Stooges - Hollywood Filming Locations will be giving a rare behind-the-scenes look at where the boys made some of their greatest shorts. (The book, hot off the press, will be available for purchase as well, and Jim will be happy to sign a copy for you.)

The lineup includes:

AN ACHE IN EVERY STAKE (1941)
MOVIE MANIACS(1936)
POP GOES THE EASEL (1935)
MERRY MAVERICKS (1951)
THREE LITTLE PIGSKINS (1934)

As usual, AFS will screen the very finest 35mm prints projected on the big screen of the historic Alex Theatre. Stooges family and friends will be there and the Alex Film Society hopes you will be too.
